Obituary for Gary Long

Gary Long, 85-year-old Langley resident passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at the Clare House in Tulsa. He was born on October 18, 1933 in Vinita to Ardus and Oma Pearl (Thompson) Long. Gary was a graduate of Ketchum high school and attended NEO A & M college in Miami. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for 3 years. Gary married the love of his life Mary Hawkins on January 1, 1957 in Miami. He retired in 1994 from Public Service of Oklahoma, where he worked as a lineman and service representative for 26 years. Gary was a member of the First Baptist Church. He loved his grandchildren deeply and loved keeping them. He had a great love for horse “Baby” and his cat “Whiskers”. Gary always raised a big garden and loved giving away his vegetables. After retiring he would work for his son Randy at SJL Construction running a tractor. He enjoyed watching western movies and reading western books and we he was younger in school he was an excellent marble player.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bob G. and Leon L. Long.
The family includes; his wife Mary of over 62 years; his children, Randy D. Long of Vinita, Terri Y. Johnson and husband Jerry of Strang; two sisters, Nancy Lewis and husband Bob of Vinita, Donna Wright of Monkey Island; three grandchildren, Cody M. Johnson and wife Sarah, Stephanie Reed and Lexi Li Long; three great-grandchildren, Avery Jo Johnson, Michael M. Reed and step-great-granchild Angela Kann.
The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Langley, Pastor Kim Schmidt will officiate. Interment will follow at the Ketchum Cemetery.
