Obituary for Howard Cox

Howard W. Cox, 85-year-old Vinita resident, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at his home. He was born on July 6, 1934 near Eufaula, Oklahoma, to Dewey and Allie (Phipps) Cox. Howard served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955, he re-enlisted with the United States Army and served from 1959-1962. He liked to hunt and fish, work with his hands, mechanic work on cars and small engines and farming. Howard married Sandra Lovada Cates on August 13, 2007 in Miami. He had previously lived in Utah before moving to Oklahoma. Howard was a member of the Apostolic Life Church in Vinita.
The family includes: his wife Sandra of the home; children, Floyd Cox of Pensacola, Ellen Prewitt of Claremore, Jerry Cox of Inola, Rosalene Phillips and fiancé` Joe Keeton of Foyil, Sara Froman and husband Lance of Claremore, Christina Beaver and husband Shane of Vinita, Rachael Cox of Vinita, Lindsey Ballard and husband Aaron of Broken Arrow; his siblings, J. C. Cox and wife Mary Jo of Oklahoma City, Jerry Cox of Oklahoma City, Avenell Choat and husband Gerald of Wanette, Clorine Bolen of Salina; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Katherine Tolbert, Deloris Eslick and Pauline Freeman; and a son, Howard Cox.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 Apostolic Life Church, 302 N Miller Street, Vinita, Oklahoma. The celebration of life service will begin at 1:00 p.m. also at the Apostolic Life Church, with Pastor Dale Stephens officiating. Interment and Military Honors will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, Pastor James Gandy will officiate.
