Obituary for Norma Jean Bennett

Norma Jean Bennett, 87-year-old Vinita, OK, resident went home to be with her Lord September 27, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 6, 1932, in Vinita to Estey Alvin and Anna Eliza Weaver [nee Swartwood]. Norma attended Ironside Grade School and then White Oak High School where she met the love of her life, Westley LeeRoy Bennett, Jr. They were married on October 24, 1948, at her parents’ home in Vinita and celebrated 70 years of marriage in October of last year.
Norma lived in Vinita all her life except for a few years in Evansville, IN, where LeeRoy worked for Peabody Coal. She was a talented artist who loved arts and crafts and owned a unique gift shop while in Evansville called “Victoria’s Attic”. Norma worked many years for Munsingwear in Vinita, Parsons Ammunition Plant in Parsons, KS, and then Peabody Coal Company in White Oak. Norma and LeeRoy owned Heavenly Tan Salon for several years before retiring. She was a member of the White Oak Foursquare Church under Pastors Howard and Catherine Mabery and later Harold and Sharon Shiflett during the years she and LeeRoy raised their three daughters. Later in life, she attended the Craig County Baptist Church in Vinita and the White Oak Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, a Proverbs 31 woman: NIV) . . .”Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her”. Her heart was to serve the Lord and raise her children to know Him.
Norma leaves behind three daughters, Teresa (Melvin) Storch of Katy, TX, Brenda (Carl) Lauchner of Vinita, OK, and Tammy (Steve) Loveland of Pryor, OK; one brother: George Weaver of Claremore, OK; two sisters: Francis Garrett and Linda (Henry) Brown of Vinita, OK; six grandchildren: Patty Magnon (Robert) Finch of Midland, TX, Tracy (Melissa) Magnon of Grain Valley, MO, Jeremy Storch of Mission, KS, Daniel (Pamela) Storch of Katy, TX, Megan Lauchner of Sherwood Forest, CA, and Jennie Millarr of Vinita, OK; six step-grandchildren: Raymond Lauchner of Norman, OK, Beverly Lauchner Dussault of Leadville, CO, Andrea Lauchner Lingo of Moore, OK, Ted Lauchner of Vinita, OK, and Joni Loveland of Pryor, OK; twelve great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Westley LeeRoy Bennett, Jr., her parents, a brother, Estey Weaver, Jr., two grandsons, Dustin Leland Millarr and David Michael Storch and one great-grandson, Jackson Jay Jolly (Magnon).
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2019, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home in Vinita. The service celebrating her life will be held Monday, September 30, 2019, at 2:00 pm at Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home, Vinita, OK, with Pastor Harold Shiflett officiating. Her body will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on the funeral home Facebook page.
