Obituary for Reuben Hugh De Lozier

Reuben Hugh De Lozier was born September 20, 1949 at Pryor, Oklahoma to Reuben Edward (R.E.) De Lozier and Sylvia Mae (Hughes) of Adair. He passed away on May 17, 2019 at the St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa at the age of 69. He attended Adair Public Schools being active in band, music and FFA. He was the first Adair FFA member to be selected as a member of the National FFA Band. Hugh attended Oklahoma State University majoring in music and was a member of the OSU marching band for four years. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and later his Master’s Degree at OSU in Applied Behavior Studies. Hugh operated his own sound and music company for several years, doing numerous events in Oklahoma and Colorado. He also taught guitar lessons to numerous students in the Vinita and Adair area, his last student was Alexandra De Lozier.
Hugh taught band and music in Ripley and Vinita Public Schools and later taught detention classes for Vinita Public Schools. He served seven and a half years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard 45th Infantry Division and was a member of the 145th Army Band. He loved camping in Colorado and would go every summer until his health would no longer allow him to make the trip, he donated all his camping equipment to the Adair Boy Scouts. He had a giving spirit and gave to numerous charity organizations. He enjoyed buying Christmas presents for Alexandra, Dax, Dade, and Dacen, and was always hit on Bell Street for Halloween by the trick or treaters.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, R. E. and Sylvia De Lozier.
His surviving family includes; one brother, Dennis and wife Rita De Lozier; nephews Darren and wife Robin De Lozier and their daughter Alexandra, Devin and wife Becky De Lozier and their son’s, Dax, Dade and Dacen.
The celebration of life for Hugh De Lozier will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church northwest of Adair, Pastor Derek Melton will officiate. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hope Cemetery. Friends may give to the St. Jude's Childrens Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.highsmithfh.com or on our Facebook page. The funeral will be held today, you can turn west off of Hwy 69 on 370 Rd and continue west to the church or you may go west of Adair on Hwy 28 and turn north on 4330 Rd to 370 Rd and west to the church.
