Obituary for Westley LeeRoy Bennett

Westley LeeRoy Bennett, 89-year-old Vinita resident, went to be with his Lord September 19, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. LeeRoy was born February 8, 1930, in White Oak, OK, to LeeRoy and Jewell A. Bennett (nee Williams). LeeRoy graduated from White Oak High School where he met the love of his life, Norma Jean Weaver. They were married October 24, 1948, ¬¬in Vinita and celebrated 70 years of marriage last October.
LeeRoy lived in Vinita all his life except for a few years in Evansville, IN, where he worked for Peabody Coal as a Company Foreman. He was a mechanic and heavy equipment operator by trade, working for Don Campbell, the Oklahoma State Highway Department and Peabody Coal. He and Norma owned Heavenly Tan Salon for several years before retiring. He was a member of the White Oak Foursquare Church under Pastors Howard and Catherine Mabery and later Harold and Sharon Shiflett. Later in life, he attended the Craig County Baptist Church in Vinita which he helped build. He loved hunting, fishing, dominos and cards and shared that love with his grandchildren. His amazing physical strength was confounding, especially to his brothers and grandsons. He was a loving father, grandfather and husband; an honorable man with a huge heart and quick wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
LeeRoy leaves behind his loving wife of 70 years, Norma; three daughters, Teresa (Melvin) Storch of Katy, TX, Brenda (Carl) Lauchner of Vinita, OK, and Tammy (Steve) Loveland of Pryor, OK; two brothers: Bobby Gene (Sammie) Bennett and Sonnie (Linda) Bennett both of Vinita, OK; two sisters: Dorothy (Earl) Patton of Chelsea, OK, and Linda Scott of White Oak, OK; six grandchildren: Tracy (Melissa) Magnon of Grain Valley, MO, Patty Magnon (Robert) Finch of Midland, TX, Jeremy Storch of Mission, KS, Daniel (Pamela) Storch of Katy, TX, Megan Lauchner of Sherwood Forest, CA, and Jennie Millarr of Vinita, OK; five step-grandchildren: Raymond Lauchner of Norman, OK, Beverly Lauchner Dussault of Leadville, CO, Andrea Lauchner Lingo of Moore, OK, Ted Lauchner of Vinita, OK, and Joni Loveland of Pryor, OK.; and twelve great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers: Elmer G. (Pat) Bennett, John J. Bennett (infant), Buss P. Bennett, Jerry (Jake) Bennett and Gerald A. Bennett; five sisters: Opal M. Faulconer, Imogene P. Vandeveer, Elizabeth Angeline (Tiny) Bennett, Violet Maxine Bennett, and Doris Mae Bennett of whom the last three died in a 1947 house fire; two grandsons: Dustin Leland Millarr and David Michael Storch; and one great-great grandson: Jackson Jay Jolly (Magnon).
The family will receive friends on September 23, 2019, from 6:00-8:00pm at Burckhalter-Highsmith Funeral Home in Vinita. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held September 24, 2019, at 10:00am at White Oak Baptist Church, White Oak, OK, with Pastor Harold Shiflett officiating.
